Health Research Caucus

In 2009, Research Canada established a Health Research Caucus (HRC), drawing parliamentarians from all political parties to participate in a non-partisan forum to discuss the critical importance of health research to the health and wealth of Canadians.

The HRC was first chaired by Senator Wilbert Keon and Vice-Chaired by Ms. Marlene Jennings, former MP for Notre-Dame-de-Grace-Lachine, and Mr. Luc Malo, former MP for Vercheres-Les Patriotes. Senator Kelvin K. Ogilvie graciously agreed to take over the reins as Caucus Chair when Senator Keon retired in May 2010.

Research Canada is also pleased to announce the addition of two new Vice-Chairs: Ms. Carol Hughes, MP for Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing, and Dr. Kirsty Duncan, MP for Etobicoke North.

Advancements in health research improve our lives and lead to tangible economic benefits for Canada. Through the HRC, Research Canada engages elected officials, policy-makers and key industry stakeholders to advocate for long-term, sustainable health research funding that spurs innovation and ensures that Canadian citizens are among the healthiest in the world.
